We’ve been scanning for a long time, and there are a 3D Scanning tips and tricks that we think could save you a lot of time and headache.
We like to think about scanning like painting cars — what do they tell you about painting cars? It’s all about the prep. Make sure to gather the proper tools, have your ideas on a cheatsheet, and be ready to make something in order to get the best results possible.
The same thing goes with scanning, so here are 5 tips and tricks to help you be as efficient as possible with your 3D scanner.
3D Scanning Tips and Tricks
Using Global Markers Files
The first thing we need to know how to use are Global markers files. Each software might be a little bit different, but in the Shining 3D realm, just buttons are in different places. Here’s how you make a global markers file:
- Scan Settings
- Under the “Scan Markers” mode, create a global markers file by saving the outline and orientation.
- Scan the markers, and save the scan.
Turntable Automation Hacks
Consider using an electric turntable with markers for automated movement. Create a global markers file for the turntable, allowing for quick and efficient scanning of hard-to-reach areas.
Fixing Handheld Scanners
Any handheld scanner can be turned into a fixed scanner. Use a tripod and a clamp stand to stabilize the scanner, especially for ultra-high-detail scanning. This helps capture data more effectively.
Using Larger Turntables
If you need to scan something bigger, place a larger turntable on the existing one. Ensure both turntables have markers for accuracy. This approach allows scanning larger objects without buying an additional turntable.
Orienting Difficult Parts
When dealing with difficult parts, consider using hot glue to secure them in place. This prevents movement during scanning. Use isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to remove the hot glue after scanning without damaging the materials.
Those are our tips for scanning consistently and saving time. They may seem simple, but if you utilize them, you’ll find them more useful than they seem. Share your own creative solutions in the comments for a chance to be featured in another video!
