Understanding Modes of the 22 IDEX

Understanding Mirror and Duplication Modes

Greetings, it’s Cole with Vision Miner! Today, I’ll provide an insightful overview of duplication and mirror modes on the 22 IDEX 3D printer. Let’s start by clarifying the distinction between mirror and duplication mode.

Demonstration: Using Duplication Mode

Mirror mode produces identical parts that are mirror images of each other, essentially creating symmetrical copies. On the other hand, duplication mode generates exact copies of the same part, not mirrored. For example, if you have a mold’s half and print it in mirror mode, you’ll get the other perfectly fitting half. If you simply want duplicates for batch printing, duplication mode is the choice.

Printing Preparation and Execution

For our demonstration, we’ll use duplication mode to print an exact copy of a part. It’s worth noting that even though only one side of the build plate is visible in the slicer, both sides are identical in duplication mode, simplifying the slicing process.

Applying Nanopolymer Adhesive

After ensuring all settings are in order, we’ve sliced our part for CF Nylon Gen 3 from 3DXTech. Checking the slice preview confirms that it’s a duplicate of the original part. Ensure your 3D printer is properly calibrated (watch our previous video for guidance) and export the G-Code to commence printing.

A helpful tip: Apply nanopolymer adhesive to the bed before printing to enhance adhesion. In duplication mode, apply adhesive to both sides of the bed or selectively where the prints will be located for a touch-up.

Printing in Mirror Mode

With nanopolymer adhesive applied, open the Duet Web Control, preheat the machine (considering the use of a chamber), and start the print. I’ll swiftly slice for mirror mode, though it won’t appear different in the slicer. Remember, in mirror mode, the part is a flipped and inverted version, designed to fit seamlessly with its counterpart.

Conclusion and Contact Information

Preheat the machine and await the completion of the print. That concludes our overview of duplication and mirror mode on the 22 IDEX. Visit our website at visionminer.com for additional information, configuration files, or reach out to us via call or email for any queries. Thank you for watching!
